What is ‘Team GB Live’?
Team GB Live is the Official Travel Partner and Authorised Ticket Reseller (ATR) of the BOA who compete as Team GB.
Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) can choose to appoint an Authorised Ticket Reseller (ATR) to manage the process of selling official tickets at each Summer and Winter Olympic Games. In 2017 the British Olympic Association (BOA) appointed Team GB Live as its exclusive ATR for the period 2018 – 2024.
We work extremely closely with the BOA and are privileged to carry the Team GB name and logo. Our unique relationship enables us to offer exclusive access and assets to Team GB athletes, experiences and events both pre-Games and during the Olympics.
Team GB Live is a trading name of Sports Travel & Hospitality Group, a joint venture between Sodexo, the global leader in Quality of Life services and The Mike Burton Group, the UK’s largest sports travel company
Do Team GB Live packages include official Olympic tickets?
Yes. As the Authorised Ticket Reseller for the UK and NI, Team GB Live is the only official outlet for Official Olympic Tickets. These tickets have been sourced directly from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) via the local organising committee in Tokyo (TOCOG). All our travel packages include official event tickets, which can be selected from a range of ticket modules on our website.
Can I simply buy a ticket only?
Yes, you can, but you must consider that obtaining travel services independently to accompany these may be very difficult.
However, we appreciate that not all Team GB supporters will require travel services to accompany their official tickets. Our ticket allocation has now been confirmed with TOCOG and we have an allocation of tickets for almost every sport competing at Tokyo 2020 Summer Games. Tickets for each of these sports will feature in both the travel programme and the ticket only programme.
Some tickets are extremely limited, due to small venues and/or extremely high demand;
Team GB Live have extremely small allocations of tickets in some sessions of the following events:
- Opening Ceremony
- Closing Ceremony
- Aquatics (Swimming)
- Cycling (Track)
- Aquatics (Diving)
The ticket only website launched at the same time as the General Sale launch of travel packages on 24 July 2019.
Why are you offering travel packages?
The key objective of Team GB Live is to create official, fully branded end-to-end Team GB experiences. Working closely with Team GB, we are able to combine official Olympic tickets, with the best travel services such as flights and hotel accommodation with fabulous access to events and experiences. Combined with our knowledgeable and experienced staff in the UK and Japan, and the benefit of operating official travel programmes at major global sporting events for the past 30 years, we believe we are perfectly placed to create unforgettable memories.
As experienced sports travel operators, we understand the challenges with securing travel services around major global sporting events. With services such as international flights and hotel accommodation being in high demand, it can be difficult for independent travellers to secure the services they require. Due to our extensive experience and relationships we are able to secure these limited services well in advance, assisting supporters with the essential elements of their trip.
Team GB Live is hoping to revolutionise the way that Team GB supporters attend Olympic Games, creating a genuinely hassle free one-stop-shop.
What elements do your travel packages include?
We appreciate that whilst the official ticket is a key element of the trip, the necessary travel elements to supplement this are also extremely important.
At Team GB Live, we offer a full end-to-end travel programme, meaning that we can provide all required elements of the travel package, including but not limited to:
- Return international flights between the UK and Tokyo or Osaka in the full range of cabin classes (economy, premium economy, business and first class)
- A range of hotel accommodation in Tokyo – from budget domestic brands, through standard and superior to deluxe and luxury international branded hotels
- Internal domestic flights, if required
- Airport Support and Hotel Transfers – Tokyo has 2 large international airports (Narita and Haneda) which can be daunting on your first arrival – our staff will be there to guide and assist you on landing
- Intercity train travel – Japan is world renowned for the efficiency of the Shinkansen Bullet Train as a fantastic way to travel between Japanese cities
- Event Transfers – Tokyo has an effective network of metro and overland train routes (JR & Keio) – our packages include rail passes to ensure that you can access this efficient, clean and safe network of public transport
- Exclusive access to Team GB House– every one of the Team GB supporters traveling to Tokyo 2020 will be invited to attend Team GB House during their time in Tokyo. This unprecedented access is a first for Team GB and demonstrates the desire to provide a fully inclusive experience
- Official and exclusive adidas Team GB merchandise
- Our dedicated and experienced travel support staff, including Japanese speaking guides will be available to Team GB Live travellers to offer support, advice and guidance
Are your packages protected by ATOL, IATA and ABTA?
Yes, full financial protection is provided under the ATOL and ABTA schemes and packages that include flights are protected by the CAA under the IATA scheme
How long can I go to Japan for?
Olympic travel packages are generally referred to in terms of ‘waves’ of varying lengths. The average time spent at an Olympic Games is generally 6 – 9 days (with some supporters staying for the full 18 nights and others visiting for just 4 or 5 nights).
Can I arrange my own travel?
Yes – absolutely you can, however we expect this to be slightly more challenging than with previous Olympic Games. Firstly, with over 200 countries competing at the Games, all travel services such as international flights and hotel accommodation in Tokyo are likely to be in high demand and may be difficult to acquire independently.
Further, supporters travelling with Team GB will be supported by our dedicated and experienced staff on the ground in Tokyo.
What is a ‘Wave’
- The Term ‘Wave’ is used extensively throughout the Olympic travel programme market
- Used to describe a duration of stay in the host city
- Hotels insist on contracting the entire games period (18 nights min.)
- This 18-night block is then broken down into manageable and sellable periods called ‘waves’ by Team GB to make hotel accommodation more accessible and affordable
- For example, an 18-night block might consist of 3 x 6-night waves or 2 x 9-night waves
- Team GB Live offers a range of ‘Waves’ from 4 nights to 20 nights in Tokyo
How can I give myself the best chance of securing tickets to the most popular Olympic events?
The best way to ensure you get the best chance of securing the most popular Olympic tickets is through the travel programme.
It guarantees access to the highest profile Olympic events for which availability is extremely limited and likely to already be sold out via the ticket only programme.
To see the range of ticket-inclusive packages available from Team GB Live, all you have to do is visit teamgb.com/travel to browse our packages.
What is the Priority Access Pass (PAP)?
Purchasing the pass gets you to the front of the queue for when fully-inclusive Olympic travel packages go on sale in 2019.
- A priority sign up window to guarantee your place
- Official fully-inclusive travel packages
- A great range of flights, hotels and transfers
- Exclusive PAP Event in the UK in early 2020
The Priority Access Pass is fully refundable should you be unable to travel and will be deducted from your final package balance if you do proceed with purchasing a travel package
It's easy, hassle free and offers the perfect reassurance that every detail is taken care of.
The PAP window is now closed.
Can I sign up for more information without purchasing a PAP?
Yes. Whilst a PAP ensured a month’s priority access to the best tickets and travel packages ahead of general sale, all supporters that sign up to receive communication will receive advance notification of general sale dates and package availability.
Can I choose the events/tickets that I want within my package?
Yes, within reason and subject to availability we can build a package to suit your needs and requirements. Over 200 package iterations have been created for launch and due to our ongoing product development process, as tickets sell out, more packages will be created.
We are planning a trip across Japan around the Olympics in Tokyo – can you help with that?
Yes. We have excellent knowledge of some of the other ‘must see’ destinations in Japan outside of the capital. Whether it’s a few days in Osaka to visit the historic former capital Kyoto, a few days in Kobe to experience the world-famous beef or a quiet day of peace in the memorial gardens of Hiroshima. We can create bespoke packages to enable you to show your support for Team GB in Tokyo as well as experiencing the fabulous history and culture of this fascinating and welcoming country.
Will more ticket-only options become available and how will I find out?
Yes, more ticket only options will become available to fans in the lead up to Tokyo 2020. If you haven’t yet signed up to hear of ticket and travel updates, you can do register at teamgb.com/tickets and you will be notified via email beforehand when these tickets become available. If you have not registered your interest, you should do so in order to be the first to hear of ticket releases.
We expect that ticket-only demand to be high, particularly for the major events and if you cannot find what you are looking for, those tickets may still be available in our official travel programme with Team GB Live. Teamgb.com/travel
How do travel packages work? What if I don’t need all the services?
Team GB Live want to provide a complete, end to end travel and event experience for fans in Tokyo and has experts in flights, accommodation and experiences to ensure a memorable and easy fan experience.
With fans and athletes from 100’s of countries travelling and staying in Tokyo, flights and accommodation will be in short supply, especially in a country that already has thriving business travellers, already making services scarce.
Should you wish to remove an element of the package, because you have friend or relatives in Tokyo for example, that’s fine. However, the Team GB Live travel programme cannot provide just tickets. All travel packages have to come with a service, either flights, accommodation or both – but if you want to remove an element, you can do.
